Students will gain an understanding of univariate and bivariate data, and how to apply it to data sets. Stats: Modeling the World (AP Edition), 4th & 5th editions: chapter 2.Student will be able to design studies that allow for statistical inference.No food or drink other than water is allowed in the classroom.Students are required to participate in class.Students are expected to be on time and prepared for every class.Tests and quizzes will also be given throughout the year. Well measure the position of data within a distribution using percentiles and z-scores, well learn what happens when we transform data, well study how to model distributions with density curves, and well look at one of the most important families of distributions called Normal distributions. Homework for the entire chapter is assigned at the beginning of the chapter and is typically due the day of the test/quiz for that chapter, about a week later. This unit takes our understanding of distributions to the next level. Students should be prepared for quizzes and projects given at the teacher’s discretion. There are also numerous labs where students will be expected to be actively engaged in gathering data as well as the ongoing discussion during the lab. The students are expected to complete every assignment, read their text, and review their work on a daily basis. The teacher will provide several examples for the students to follow and if time allows, guided practice during class. This course requires a student to have successfully completed Algebra II. What will equate to a successful score depends on the college you attend.
Only upon receiving a successful score on the AP* exam in May, will students receive college credit for an introductory statistics course.
Students will learn various concepts relating to the gathering, experimenting, manipulation of, and testing data relating to the study of statistics. The course is weighted as an AP* course and is taught at a higher level. AP* (Advanced Placement) coursework is administered through College Board and allows high-performing students the opportunity to earn college credits while in high school.
